About the position:
The projectionist is responsible for operating the 35mm projectors, the 16mm projector, or the digital cinema system during each film screening. This includes examining the film, ingesting DCPs, building digital playlists, and return shipping.
The projectionist works closely with a five-person team: one cinema coordinator, a second projectionist, a publicity coordinator, and an events and rentals coordinator. All five participate in the selection of film offerings each term as well as the overall running of the cinema. This is a position that requires a high level of technical ability, a deep appreciation for detail, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Students with prior experience in 35mm projection are encouraged to apply, but this program also offers a unique opportunity to those without previous film handling experience. Training for 35mm and 16mm will occur on-site.
The position requires 14 to 16 hours of work per week, with weekly meetings and showings every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. This schedule is subject to change and is accommodating of individual class schedules.
