Spend your Halloween weekend with 5th Avenue Cinema as we explore the origins of cinema through the evolution of horror! Revel in the cap, the surreal, and the unsettling short films by Georges Méliès, Alice Guy-Blaché, and Segundo de Chomón and others followed by a presentation of Häxan (1922) — a tragic and moving look at the history of witchcraft, and the persecution of women labelled as practitioners of such. Told in a faux-documentary style and filled to the brim with dark, disturbing and expressionistic visuals, Häxan examines the humanity of witches and the stigmatization and cruelty they were met with.

This program consists of a single screening on Friday, October 30th at 6pm. The collection of films spans nearly three decades from 1897 - 1923.
