In contrast to its eye-popping Technicolor, Leave Her to Heaven’s plot is just as dark as any other film noir. Starring Academy Award nominated actress Gene Tierney as Ellen who meets writer Richard Harland (played by Cornel Wilde) then becomes obsessed with him and leaves her long-time bf (Vincent Price) to marry him. However, he begins to realize her intense jealousy for him and mentally instability lead to fatal results. The psychological turmoil of the main characters perfectly encapsulates the distressed worldview of the film noir style. The isolated setting of a lodge in the wilderness of Maine creates an uneasy claustrophobia that is representative of Ellen’s intensity.
