he/him/his
// events coordinator from 2018-2019 //

Zeami Eccles-Irwin was born in Hokkaido Japan and moved to Beaverton when he was four. As a film major, he has come to admire the complexity of filmmaking and has a special appreciation for low-budget movies that find unique ways to do more with less. He is most interested in a film’s formal qualities, enjoying everything from the precision editing of golden age Hollywood to the expressive camerawork of 70s Italian horror. When he’s not scooping popcorn at the 5th Ave, you can find him in garages around town making bad music with good people.

Amy EPPERSON

they/them/theirs
//  projectionist from 2016-2019 //

After working as our publicity coordinator and finding themself in the projection booth more often than need be, they found the careful and methodical practice of working with film to be a good fit. They enjoy working with their hands, whether sewing a garment or threading a projector. As an architecture major, film minor, Amy is interested in the meaning in making, the ways in which a work speaks towards the time in which it is made, and carving out spaces for these sorts of dialogues to occur.

They love painting with water colors and drawing to old music when they’re not watching anime or New Wave Japanese cinema. If you see us on twitter or instagram, tell Jenny hi!

AMELIA EICHLER

she/her/hers
// projectionist from 2017-2020 //

Amelia Eichler is a native Portlander. As a film major she hopes to someday be in California, saving films from deterioration in an archival warehouse. She most enjoys watching films, hopping from one antique store to another, collecting vintage postcards, roller skating to disco music, and listening to her plethora of Dean Martin records. She loves a good musical and her favorite era in film is the 1930s (but her passion is strong for all films made during the classic hollywood era). You can find her at The Hollywood Theatre or at the local roller rink.

ROSIE BASIS

she/her/hers
// projectionist in 2020 //

Originally from the Midwest and the PNW, Rosie is now a film major at PSU with the interest of pursuing cinematography as well as experimental film production. As someone who deeply appreciates and practices photography, she’s continuously enamored by the endless possibilities of visual storytelling. She’s a lover of anything french adjacent so naturally the french new wave is one of her favorite cinematic movements. On her days off, she enjoys reading novels, browsing local bookstores, thrifting or exploring nature.

MATTHEW CARR

he/him/his
// events coordinator + podcast editor from 2019-2020 //

Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Matthew is an architecture major who loves all things design adjacent. He started creating and studying films in high school and since then, has kept that passion alive despite spending most of his time hunched over a drafting board. Matt hopes to someday work in the humanitarian sector of the design profession and use his film background to document his work. When he isn’t he drawing up plans, making grilled cheese, or having a small existential crisis, he likes to backpack, take photographs and adventure around Portland while listening to wayyy too many true crime or music podcasts.

Sam Schrader

he/him/his
//  projectionist + podcast co-host from 2019-2020  //

Sam Schrader has lived in Portland, Oregon his whole life. He has had a passion for film and filmmaking since a young age, so it seems only natural that he is a film major at PSU. His interests in film are very broad but he has a particular fondness for indie, experimental film. As a projectionist he is delighted to be able to work with 35mm and 16mm film, a rare opportunity these days (and getting rarer every day).

MAKAVELI GRESHAM

they/them/theirs
// cinema coordinator + podcast producer from 2017-2020 //

Makaveli is the Cinema Coordinator at 5th Ave! An architecture major / photo minor hailing from Oklahoma, Makaveli hopes to be a name people vaguely remember in the world of Art and Design. They can be found answering emails behind a computer, in art galleries on PSU campus, making something that could vaguely pass as art, or using an unnecessary amount of exclamation points! They holds the opinion that music videos are the best short films (Vince Staples - Prima Donna is Fire, as is Kevin Abstract - Empty).
If you see them say hi, and hope you don’t get into an argument about hip hop with them.

Tracy Kernell

he/him/his
// head projectionist + podcast co-host from 2019-2021//

Hailing from Southern California, Tracy Kernell is a filmmaker, photographer and currently a projectionist at 5th Ave. He centers his work on black life while paying close attention to the intersection of the peculiar and the mundane and how those two ways of being are in concert with each other. Originally aspiring to be the next Roy Decarava, Tracy found film through a film analysis class and has never looked back. Transfixed by the litany of ways film can impart feeling, emotion, and change, Tracy chose film as a way to turn his ideas into reality. Consistently buzzing through campus, you can find him inhaling a taco by UCB or engaging in a healthy discussion on why there needs to be more cultural significance placed on Nickelodeon tv shows of the early aughts. Either way, say what’s up.

madi lou alexander

they/them/theirs

// cinema coordinator + podcast producer from 2019-2021 //

A thousand miles away from their [first] home of Long Beach, CA, Madi Lou found a new home in the bowels of Lincoln Hall. Originally aiming to be the next Erroll Garner, they are now pursuing a degree in Sexuality, Gender, and Queer Studies and hope to make something of their affinity for theory and debate. 5th Avenue became a regular stop for them in their first two years of living on campus, and they credit the staff for making Portland feel home-adjacent at last! They’ve been quoting movies since the day they could talk and have a deep passion for all things queer theory adjacent. In their spare time, you can find them (avoiding tasks by) baking or huddled over their slowly growing collection of film cameras. Never be shy to tell them hi~
